SALT Q&A: 6 Tips to Combat Burnout

SALT Q&A: 6 Tips to Combat Burnout

Visionary and Founder of SALT Conference, Luke McElroy, chatted with Nathan LaGrange from Life Impact Ministries. Nathan has been a SALT leader for years and, before joining Life Impact Ministries, was the senior pastor of a church in Indianapolis, IN (0:01 – 4:57). He shared how the creative technical practitioner has moved from a supporting role in the church to a crucial role, and why the relationship between technical practitioner and pastor is so vital in today’s new norm (4:58-12:07).

With this shift, many church practitioners live in a constant “hustle” mentality, which can easily lead to burnout. Combating burnout requires not just physical rest, but also mental rest. We need to use this time to unite, to show grace to pastors, volunteers, and teammates, and to evaluate our hearts so God can work. (12:09 – 33:42)

Nathan offers six practical steps, the “6 R’s.” The first three serve as a reset, and the last three help you let God direct your next steps. As Nathan says: “If you rest well, you will receive God’s plan well.” (33:43 – 43:09)

  1. Rest
  2. Repentance
  3. Re-establish
  4. Re-Discover
  5. Re-Imagine
  6. Re-Enter

Lastly, with Easter looking so different this year, many may ask, “now what?” The bottom line: Jesus has called us to be the church. Without buildings or in-person gatherings, this is the time for the SALT Community to be creative engineers and innovators. This is our chance to be SALT and LIGHT. (43:10 – 50:19)
